Associate Telecommunications Engineer
Under the general supervision of the Senior Telecommunications Engineer of the Earthquake Engineering Program, the Associate Telecommunication Engineer is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of  the operation of statewide telecommunications systems for the California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program’s (CSMIP) seismic stations, including telecommunication engineering surveys and studies by providing technical assistance and advice to the CSMIP Field Operations manager on telecommunication methods and systems such as telephone, data, mobile, microwave radio and satellite systems.

Program Director in the Geophysics Program

The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) is seeking qualified candidates for a program director in the Geophysics program. The Geophysics program supports basic research in the physics of the solid earth to explore its composition, structure, and processes using laboratory, field/observational, theoretical, and computational studies. Duties include administering the NSF’s Merit Review process for the Geophysics Program and helping to identify and support emerging trends in the science. The Geophysics program scope is described in its solicitation: https://beta.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/geophysics-ph-0.

This position is an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) Assignment as a temporary rotator (1 to 3 years). Employees of institutions of higher education, state or local government agencies, and Indian tribal governments are eligible to apply for IPA assignments. NSF has an Independent Research/Development (IR/D) program that permits individuals with approved IR/D plans to maintain involvement with their professional research. The position is located at the NSF’s Alexandria, VA headquarters, and will remain open until filled. We expect to review applications through the Spring for a start date in Fall, 2023.

The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Science Center is seeking two Physical Scientists to join the ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system’s Communication, Education, Outreach, and Technical Engagement (CEO&TE) Team. The ShakeAlert EEW system is a mission critical, distributed system that rapidly detects earthquakes and generates ShakeAlert Messages so that distribution partners can develop and deliver alerts to the public and/or trigger automated systems. The ShakeAlert system operates in California, Oregon, and Washington and serves over 50 million people. These positions are located at USGS Earthquake Science Center offices in Mountain View, CA and Seattle, WA and will report to staff in Pasadena, CA.
