Project Abstract
The major objective of this project is to produce campaign GPS time series and crustal motion model in southern California. All the campaign GPS data observed 1986-2016 in southern California are collected and processed uniformly using the GAMIT software, various problems associated with the meta data are fixed, and the final solution is referenced reliably to the stable north America reference frame. Station displacement time series are modelled as a function of secular velocities and coseismic/postseismic displacements of significant earthquakes. This product is a major component of the SCEC Community Geodetic Model (CGM) project, which provides foundation for further research of tectonic deformation, earthquakes, and seismic hazard assessments.
Intellectual Merit The product has been and will be used to refine fault slip rate estimates, assess seismic hazards, and constrain off-fault deformation.
Broader Impacts The research has the potential for seismic hazard mitigation.
