Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

In the end of 2019, a China-US cooperation project named “CSEP China in the Context of China Seismic Experimental Site (CSEP-CSES)” was approved which is led by Prof. Yongxian Zhang at the Institute of Earthquake Forecasting (IEF), China Earthquake Administration(CEA), and Prof. Emily Brodsky at UCSC and SCEC. The mission goal of this project is to set up a running CSEP Testing Center in China, which will be a family member of CSEP.

The original execution period of this project is from November 2019 to October 2022. However, the visiting between two sides has been postponed the Covid-19 pandemic and the final execution period has to be extended to October 2023, which has been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

Till now, the original planned mission has not been completed. However, the data collection, module research and development for earthquake forecasting and predictability testing have been finished. In addition, the facility and hardware of CSEP China are ready which locates at the Institute of Earthquake Forecasting, China Earthquake Administration with area of about 60m2. CSEP CN system has almost been developed including modules of earthquake forecasting models, such as LURR, SV ETAS, the comprehensive probability prediction method of earthquake based on Bayesian formula, etc. Three test models of R value, ROC and Molchan test are also included in the CSEP CN system. This System will be online in the end of this year. More than 30 journal articles have been published, and 9 talks have been presented for the international conferences. Overall, although affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, the project is going smoothly.

Next step we hope to set up an interconnection and interworking bridge between CSEP CN Testing Center and the root CSEP Testing Center. This needs the basic cooperation by international visiting actions.
