Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

Annemarie S. Baltay

USGS Earthquake Science Center
Research Geophysicist

Expertise: Earthquake Seismology; Earthquake Ground Motion

About Me Publications
Annemarie Baltay is an observational seismologist with the USGS in Moffett Field who researches earthquake ground motions. She is interested in how earthquake source physics and earth materials/structure control ground motions measured at distances from an earthquake, and how we use observations of ground motion to infer information about the physics of the earth. She is also involved in the development of the USGS led ShakeAlert earthquake early warning project to alerts the U.S. West coast for earthquake ground motion before it arrives at a user's location. Annemarie received her PhD in Geophysics from Stanford before becoming a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Scholar at the USGS. While conducting cutting edge research, she also enjoys being in the extremely collaborative environment of the USGS.
