About Me Publications
Dr. Elena A. Miranda is a Professor of Geology in the Department of Geological Sciences at California State University Northridge (CSUN). She is a structural geologist who specializes in microstructural and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis of fault rocks, and she is the faculty director of the CSUN Geology Scanning Electron Microscopy Lab. At CSUN, she also holds a position in the Provost's Office as the Co-Director of the Provost's Equity in Faculty Hiring Initiative, where she works on the recruitment and retention of BIPOC tenure-track faculty. In this role, she focuses on implementing changes in recruiting and hiring practices that will foster inclusive excellence and equitable outcomes for underrepresented faculty. As a Hispanic woman in STEM, she recognizes the unique opportunity and responsibility to be a visible mentor and agent for change in the field. She is a leader of CSUN’s Latinx Faculty and Staff advocacy group, and is the Vice-Chair of the Southern California Earthquake Center’s Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee.
