Exciting news! We're transitioning to the Statewide California Earthquake Center. Our new website is under construction, but we'll continue using this website for SCEC business in the meantime. We're also archiving the Southern Center site to preserve its rich history. A new and improved platform is coming soon!

ABOUT GRAND CHALLENGES INTERNS PROJECTS

Summary

In 2008, the new UCERF model had just been released, and UseIT was challenged to “communicate the value and the content of the Uniform Earthquake Rupture Forecast to end-users and the public at large.” This led to the production of a number of informative video animations that used expanded capabilities of SCEC-VDO, which was upgraded to process and render UCERF results on-the-fly. It also led to an effort to register a wide range of digital objects that formed the basis for UCERF into the USC Digital Library System. The students encountered, and partially solved, a major problem that SCEC has had in registering digital objects into digital libraries: “the metadata bottleneck.”
