2012 SCEC Annual Meeting

The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) is funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Geological Survey to develop a comprehensive understanding of earthquakes in Southern California and elsewhere, and to communicate useful knowledge for reducing earthquake risk. SCEC coordinates a broad collaboration that builds across disciplines and enables a deeper understanding of system behavior than would be accessible by individual researchers or institutions working alone. At the Annual Meeting members of the community gather to share and get updates on SCEC research projects and activities, as well as plan collaborations for the coming year.

Meeting Program. The 2012 SCEC Annual Meeting is the first meeting fully dedicated to SCEC4. The SCEC4 project, described as "Tracking Earthquake Cascades" takes the collaboration in ambitious new directions, with the goal of addressing the six fundamental problems in earthquake science outlined in the proposal. The Science Planning Committee has organized the meeting to help make sure that in the first year we're off to a good start in meeting the goals of SCEC4, particularly in new initiatives and efforts, and to make adjustments to long-range planning accordingly.

The 2012 SCEC Annual Meeting Full Proceedings Volume XXII is available for download. Attendees received an abridged Meeting Program at the meeting.

Participants. More than 500 people attended the SCEC Annual Meeting in 2012. They comprised of people from various organizations (including profit, non-profit, domestic, and foreign) involved in a SCEC-related research, education, and outreach activities. See who attended in 2012.
